Documented History (by the NGS)
1/1/1961 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1961 (OSR) STATION IS LOCATED 1 MILE NORTH NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER OF HANFORD AND IN THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF BROWN AND WATER STREET. IT IS A SILVER COLORED, ELEVATED, DOUBLE ELLIPSOIDAL WATER TANK 96 FEET HIGH AND ON FOUR LEGS. ITS APEX WAS THE POINT OF INTERSECTION.

FOUND DATA
Lat: 36° 20.450
Long: 119° 38.600
Alt: NA

Found it at 16:45, 31 Dec. 2002. Found it in good condition. The calculated NGS coordinates were over a mile off. There is no evidence or remnants of a tank (such as a smaller municipal well site) at the posted coordinates. The double-elipsiodal tank found at Brown & Water Streets has six legs, not four as described. It is not a new tank and the original surveyor probably incorretly described it.

Original coordinates (NAD83) off by about 5400 feet when in WGS84 mode. WGS84 coordinates found by 2 minute occupation with 7 strong satellites and 1 WAAS satellite.

The six-legged tank at Brown & Water Streets.

Long: 119° 38.772
Alt: NA

Found it at 16:30, 31 Dec. 2002. Found it as described and in good condition. There can be confusion as there are two tanks in close proximity. The measurements shown in the description confirm it to be the taller, southerly tank.

Original coordinates (NAD83) off by about 50 feet when in WGS84 mode. WGS84 coordinates found at the base of the taller, southerly tank.
