HO0251 - D58 1934

Visited the back roads of beautiful southern Utah and the Paiute Indian Reservation. Saw some pretty desert country. Found a few benchmarks. Got a speeding ticket. (Not recommended) On the plus side, the Officer was very nice.

Located in rural Washington County, Utah, this USC&GS mark lies alongside Old Highway 91. The USC&GS mark stamped "D58 1934" was found at 13:25, 06 January 2020 as described and in good condition. Recent surveying activities made locating the mark fairly easy. Go to description is adequate to find the mark.

The datasheet says the mark is set in a round concrete monument.  When I found the mark, the concrete monument was square.

Control Text
  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
