HO0249 - B58 1934

Visited the back roads of beautiful southern Utah and the Paiute Indian Reservation. Saw some pretty desert country. Found a few benchmarks. Got a speeding ticket. (Not recommended) On the plus side, the Officer was very nice.

This was a strange find.  I wasn't looking for it, but I couldn't miss it.  It was literally just sitting - uprooted - on the side of the highway.  It's been that way for some time too.  Google Earth Street View shows that it was uprooted, sitting on the fence line as it is now.

If nothing else, it is a good example (for those wondering) what a the underground concrete monument portion of the benchmarks look like.

Located in rural Washington County, Utah, this USC&GS mark lies alongside Old Highway 91. The USC&GS mark stamped "B58 1934" was found at 13:15, 06 January 2020.  While most likely in the general location where it was originally set, this can be considered a destroyed mark.

No new coordinates were taken with a GPSr.
Approximate location per the photos: N 37° 07.054', W 113° 49.099'
Approximate location per Google Earth: N 37° 07.060', W 113° 49.101'

There is no datasheet that can be found and no other published details for this mark.  From that, I would assume that the NGS considers this mark destroyed.

The PID was determined by looking at the other PIDs in the area and comparing their designations.
A58 = HO0248
