QX0584 "D565 1983"

Visited Yellowstone National Park for the first time. A bucket-list item for me. Spent the night in Gardiner, Montana, took lots of pictures, and did a few touristy things. Looked for a few benchmarks too. The highlight for me was the massive Roosevelt Arch at the north entrance of the Park. Built in 1903 by the US Army, the cornerstone was laid by President Theodore Roosevelt.

Located in the Town of Gardiner, Park County, Montana, this NGS mark lies near the Roosevelt Arch.  The NGS mark stamped "D565 1983" was found at 08:30, 24 July 2019 as described and in good condition. To be expected with a mark that's less than 40 years old. Go to description is adequate to find the mark.

Published NAD83 coordinates are located about 323 feet southeast of the found WGS84 coordinates. WGS84 coordinates for the mark found by 4 minute occupation with 11 strong satellites and 1 WAAS satellite.

Control Text
  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
