DG4047 "Nevada Center of Population"
My Wife and I were able to spend a few days in and around Death Valley National Park, exploring the Valley, Badwater Basin, Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells, as well as Beatty and Rhyolite, Nevada. Found some benchmarks while we were there too, including this one.
Located in the Town of Beatty, Nye County, Nevada, this NGS mark, set in conjunction with the Nevada Association of Land Surveyors (NALS) and the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping (ACSM), lies on the grounds of the Beatty High School, at the west entrance of the parking lot off of Hornet Avenue. The mark stamped "State of Nevada - Center of Population 2000" was found at 10:00, 17 February 2022 as described and in good condition. Go to description is adequate to find the mark.
Published NAD83 coordinates are very accurate and the found WGS84 coordinates are no different. WGS84 coordinates for the mark found by 2.5 minute occupation with 7 strong satellites and 1 WAAS satellite.
