GR1365 "Z 405"

Spent a few days in Mesquite. Spent some time looking for a few benchmark while I was there.

Located in the City of Mesquite, Clark County, Nevada, this NGS mark lies on the north side of West Mesquite Boulevard, between Desert Drive and Palm Drive. This mark is a stainless steel rod driven to refusal. It does not have any stamping on it, but it is in a well with a collar marked "National Geodetic Survey" and "Vertical Control Mark".  The mark was found at 08:10, 23 June 2018 as described and in generally good condition. Go to description is adequate to find the mark.

The described church and other improvements relating to the church have been removed.  The front of the site is presently vacant.  A new library and community center have been constructed at the rear of the lot.  The centerline of the Boulevard and the wash (Town Wash) remain in place.  The driveway ramp may have been rebuilt as it is now utilized as a ramp for a new walking path along the wash.  There is an adjacent utility pole, however it looks to be newly relocated for sidewalk improvements.

The concrete collar protecting the rod has been uprooted, but remains loosely in place over the monument.

No new coordinates were taken.

Control Text
  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
