HR0482 "F703 1943"
I have looked for this benchmark multiple times for probably more than fifteen years. I've always come up empty handed. It was frustrating as there have been no improvements in the area that would have covered, moved, or otherwise destroyed the mark. I knew it should have been there, which is why I kept looking for it.
This mark became the topic of a recent discussion I had with another local surveyor who was looking for a benchmark in the area for nearby project. We discussed a few of the benchmarks I knew of, and this one, which I didn't. This one was the one she was most interested in as it was closest to her project.
She looked for it with new eyes and found it, more than 1000 feet from where I had been looking. Many thanks to Katrina Olsen, PLS, for helping me check this one off my list.
Located in the community of Prather, Fresno County, California, this USC&GS mark lies on a granite outcrop on the southeast side of Auberry Road (aka State Route 168). The USC&GS mark stamped "F703 1943" was found at 19:10, 7 August 2020 as described and in good condition. Go to description is adequate to find the mark.
Published NAD83 coordinates are located about 46 feet northeasterly of the found WGS84 coordinates. WGS84 coordinates for the mark found by 3 minute occupation with 6 strong satellites and 1 WAAS satellite.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 2.8 MI S FROM AUBERRY. 2.8 MILES SOUTH ALONG THE CLOVIS ROAD FROM THE POST OFFICE AT AUBERRY, FRESNO COUNTY, 375 FEET EAST OF A WHITE HOUSE WITH A GREEN ROOF, 275 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A SMALL GRAIN HOUSE, 21 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE ROAD, 5 FEET SOUTH OF A FENCE, IN THE TOP OF A LARGE FLAT BOULDER, AND 18 INCHES ABOVE THE ROAD. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED F 703 1943.

Control Text
- The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
- The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
- The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
