Found it at 17:30, 01 April 2004 in good condition. It is a silver-colored, elevated, cylindrical steel water tank with a spherical bottom and conical top, about 130 feet high. The Calwa Producers Cotton Oil Company plant is no longer in use and in disrepair. The buildings remain and the tank is still standing. The tank is approximately 50 feet south of the centerline of North Avenue and 400 feet west of the centerline of Maple Avenue.
Original NAD83 coordinates were located about 63 feet south-southeasterly of the adjusted WGS84 coordinates. WGS84 coordinates for the mark found by 4 minute occupation on the south side of North Avenue approximately 36 feet north of the tank location with 9 strong satellites and 2 WAAS satellites. (Occupation at the base of the tank was not possible. Found coordinates have been adjusted to show true benchmark position.)
The tank and the GPSr.
