DESCRIBED BY US FOREST SERVICE 1961 (DSH) STATION IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 9-1/2 AIRMILES NORTHWEST OF BIG CREEK RANGER STATION, 20 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE MAMMOTH ROAD AND ABOUT 5 FEET SOUTHEAST FROM THE CORNER OF A CATTLE GUARD. ROUTE TO STATION--FROM MINARETS RANGER STATION TAKE THE MAMMOTH ROD SOUTH FOR 14.4 MILES TO STATION ON LEFT, EAST OF ROAD. STATION MARK--THE STATION MARK IS A STANDARD U.S.D.A. FOREST SERVICE BRONZE DISK STAMPED MILE HIGH 1961 AND SET IN A 10 INCH MONUMENT (CONCRETE) PROJECTING +0.2 FOOT FROM THE GROUND. ELEVATION--5459.8 FT.

Found it at 10:40, 04 October 2003 generally as described and in fair condition. The cattle guard in the description is now gone, but the abutment for the guard remains. The cap has been damage some - slightly bent and scratched - but can still be read and used.
Original NAD83 coordinates were located about 14 feet southwesterly of the found WGS84 coordinates. WGS84 coordinates for the mark found by 13 minute occupation with 6 strong satellites and 1 WAAS satellite.
