DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 0.3 MI N FROM AUBERRY. 0.3 MILE NORTH ALONG THE NORTH FORK ROAD FROM THE POST OFFICE AT AUBERRY, FRESNO COUNTY, 75 FEET WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF A ROAD LEADING TO HUNTINGTON LAKE, 40 FEET EAST OF BIG SANDY GRADE SCHOOL, AND 4 FEET NORTH OF AN ANGLE IN THE FENCE LINE. A UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY STANDARD DISK, STAMPED 2005 AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST.
Lat: 37° 04.821
Long: 119° 29.166
Both roads mentioned in the description, and the intersection of them have been moved since 1943, and the old schoolhouse no longer exists. Evidence of the old roadbeds, and the steps to the school and the building pad still remain but are difficult to locate exactly. It is difficult to say if this benchmark still exists without some additional research and detective work.
A USGS benchmark was found in the area loosly matching the description, however it does NOT match the description of the benchmark itself. I believe this was a reset of the first, although the designations are different. This on is stamped '2006 feet', '66 KSM', '1947'. I have been unable to find any description of this cap.
