GS0952 "2253 B 80"

My Wife and I were able to spend a few days in and around Death Valley National Park, exploring the Valley, Badwater Basin, Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells, as well as Beatty and Rhyolite, Nevada. Found some benchmarks while we were there too, including this one.

Located some 18 miles southwest of the Town of Beatty, Nye County, Nevada, at the entrance to Death Valley National Park at Hell’s Gate, this USGS mark lies just east of the intersection where Daylight Pass Road and Beatty Road merge, and southeasterly and across the road from the Death Valley National Park Information Area. The USGS mark stamped "2253 B 1907 80" was found at 11:45, 17 February 2022 as described and in generally good condition. Go to description is adequate to find the mark.

Published NAD83 coordinates are located about 10 feet northeasterly of the found WGS84 coordinates. WGS84 coordinates for the mark found by 2 minute occupation with 9 strong satellites and 1 WAAS satellite.

Control Text
  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1992. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
