The mark has good line of sight to a nearby United State Department of Agriculture Bureau of Public Roads dual-purpose mark. The USDA mark is set in the top of the short granite wall around the west-bound overlook parking lot, at the west end of the lot. The USDA mark has both an elevation and roadway stationing stamped on it.
Published NAD83 coordinates are located about 126 feet southeast of the found WGS84 coordinates. WGS84 coordinates for the mark found by 3 minute occupation with 4 strong satellites. Proximity to the mountain (and tunnel) blocked many of the other satellite signals.

- The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
- The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
- The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
- The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
